If you want to get a point across, sometimes words just aren't enough to do that for you. There are moments when you have to make actions work for you to do just that. We, who can talk, need to communicate with the use of gestures too in order to back up our words. As for the mute, all they can do is hear, see, feel and communicate by means of gesture. Thing is, even without all the cognitive speaking that one does on a daily basis, they can still pull it off. And this is why the body is a very powerful weapon.

It's why for people who suffer being mute, sign language learning is very important. It's a form of communication that comes as the easiest and with the use of the body, more specifically, the hands. If we speakers have an alphabet, so do they, and it take them a lot of practice and patience in order to get things right. So in fact, it's just like how toddlers are when learning how to speak, aside from the lack of sound; it's really not so different from those who are striving how to talk.

Also, in order to communicate better with these individuals, even people who can speak are opting to have a go at sign language learning. How bad can it be right? It's worth a try because it will benefit everyone. Besides, not trying is simply reluctance for better understanding. These are the kinds of things that we need to work with.

But no one is saying that this will be an easy session. As aforementioned earlier, it takes time and patience in order to form an understanding that's close to what one would peg as perfects. Of course, while everyone is adjusting, for those that can't speak, there's always the pen and paper method. We just can't rush everything. Hurrying doesn't always solve the problems.

As for the people mingling with the mute, they need an extra amount of patience when teaching these people. It's not a hoax when people tend to lose their patience since it's not an easy process. It's like going to a different world, mostly because the way you'd interact is different. So yes, steady steps and a few smiles will go a very long way.

Sign language learning is essential to all of its practitioners. When you try to reach out by trying to put yourself in their shoes, you begin to inspire others to do the same.
